I have supported 4 Kickstarter games with mixed results.
The first was Obduction, which was made by Cyan, which is the same company that made Myst, Riven, Uru, etc. I backed it in November of 2013, for $75.00, and it was supposed to be released by October 2015. It finally made it almost a year later, in August 2016. For what I paid, I got the boxed version as well (May 2017). It was a good game so it was worth backing. The boxed version was nothing spectacular, but I'm one of the few that have it.
The next was Ray's The Dead by RagTag Studio. I helped fund it in August 2014 ($30.00) and it was supposed to be released in April 2015. As of July 2017, it still hasn't been released. Also, they got some special funding from Adult Swim Games, so they pretty much forgot about the backers. Major fail in my book!
The next was Orion Trail by Schell Games. It was a spoof on the old Oregon Trail game that I played as a kid, and was set in space. I backed it in March 2015 for $20.00. It was supposed to be released in December of 2015, but was released in October 2015. Winner here all around!
The last one I backed was Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse by Steamroller Studios. I pledged $35.00 in April 2015. It was expected to be released in December of 2016 As of July 2017 I still haven't seen this game released.
I quit funding games because the results are so unpredictable. If I happen to hear of one I am super interested in, I might help fund that, but probably nothing from the small indie studios anymore.
